Inside-it reports on Migros Bank’s 2008 introduction of a new e-banking security system developed by KOBIL. The solution replaced the bank’s previous login method with a two-part authentication setup combining a PIN-protected chip card and a USB device containing a dedicated secure browser.
The system was designed to isolate online banking from the user’s regular browser and other internet applications, reducing exposure to threats such as man-in-the-middle attacks. The chip card also contained a customer-specific PKI certificate, adding another layer of identity verification and transaction security.
