KOBIL integrates hybrid cryptography as a standard in its products
Worms, April 13, 2026 – KOBIL, a leading provider of security and identity management solutions, is transitioning its products to a quantum-secure architecture. Current KOBIL solutions are now equipped with hybrid cryptography and are therefore “quantum-ready.” This has been made possible through KOBIL’s close collaboration with Prof. Dr. Johannes Buchmann, one of the founders of the research field of post-quantum cryptography. He states: “Hybrid cryptography is currently considered the most pragmatic path to quantum readiness. KOBIL recognized the need for action at an early stage and has placed the establishment of secure connections within its products on a quantum-secure foundation.”
The announcement is being made in the context of World Quantum Day on April 14, 2026. This international day of action aims to raise public awareness of quantum technology and quantum science (4/14 – in reference to the Planck constant in eV·s).
Hybrid approach protects against “harvest-now-decrypt-later”
KOBIL is pursuing a hybrid approach: When establishing secure connections, classical cryptographic methods and post-quantum cryptography (PQC) are used in parallel. For example, by combining an elliptic-curve-based key exchange with a post-quantum mechanism. The resulting keys are merged, and the final session key remains secure as long as not both methods are compromised. The connection remains protected as long as at least one of the two methods used remains cryptographically robust.
This means that solutions using KOBIL’s secure authentication, transaction authorization, identity management or encrypted communication are protected against “harvest-now-decrypt-later.” In such attacks, adversaries record encrypted data today in order to decrypt it in the future using quantum computers.
Ismet Koyun, CEO and founder of KOBIL: “For us, quantum readiness is not a vision of the future. Companies must already ask themselves today which data must remain confidential in ten or 20 years’ time.”
Integration into the existing product architecture
The transition to hybrid cryptography affects the entire security architecture of KOBIL products. Post-quantum algorithms impose increased requirements on key sizes, computing power and protocol processes. The integration has been implemented within the existing modular codebase. The selection of the post-quantum methods used is based on the ongoing standardization processes of the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), which is defining suitable algorithms for future international standards. The migration is taking place within the existing product architecture. The aim is to prepare companies at an early stage for future threat scenarios without disrupting operational processes.
Next step: PKI and external interoperability
The next step is to make those KOBIL security solutions quantum-ready that are more strongly connected to the external environment and therefore, for example, use PKI certificates (PKI: Public Key Infrastructures). This requires that further conditions be met, such as the completion of standardization in the area of PKI certificates. KOBIL plans to consistently expand its quantum-ready architecture as soon as the relevant framework conditions are in place.
About KOBIL
KOBIL is a global technology company specializing in secure digital identity and identity-centric platform solutions. Founded in 1986 by Ismet Koyun, KOBIL enables enterprises, banks, and public authorities to build secure digital ecosystems by unifying identity, communication, services, payments, and third-party integrations within a trusted environment. According to Gartner, KOBIL is Europe’s only SuperApp provider and is listed in eleven Gartner Hype Cycles™. At the core of KOBIL’s approach is its role as a digital identity provider, enabling organizations to build identity-centric ecosystems with integrated capabilities such as secure communication and digital signatures. With its low-code, drag-and-drop SuperApp framework, organizations can rapidly launch white-label applications, bring services to market in record time, and transition into platform-driven business models. In addition, KOBIL offers KOBIL mPower, a secure workplace SuperApp that enables enterprises to manage identity, communication, approvals, and workflows within a single trusted platform. To extend trust beyond human interactions, KOBIL AI Trust provides secure and verifiable identities for AI agents and machine-based interactions, ensuring trusted digital operations across both human and machine ecosystems.
More than 1,000 organizations worldwide trust KOBIL, including the German government, Airbus, DATEV, Raiffeisen Bank, Commerzbank, Erste Group, ING, Migros Bank, Mastercard, and Siemens. KOBIL employs over 500 people and is headquartered in Worms (Germany), with offices in San Diego and San José (USA), Zurich (Switzerland), Istanbul (Turkey), and London (United Kingdom).
