Secure and Compliant Portal and App Technology for a Leading Insurance Provider

In a competitive insurance sector, VIACTIV set itself the target of being a market leader in digitization. This ambition reflected the changing behaviors of its customers, who were looking for modern and simple ways to communicate with their health insurance provider across both smartphones and traditional desktop/laptop computer systems. But this was not an easy task. Several complications had to be considered.
The storing and handling of social, health and insurance data is strictly regulated, with the former Bundesversicherungsamt (BVA, or German Federal Insurance Office), now known as the Bundesamt für Soziale Sicherung (BAS), enforcing and checking ongoing compliance with industry regulations such as Sozialgesetzbuch (SGB).
That meant all VIACTIV clients needed a secure and easy authentication method to access their online insurance platform.
And with an ever-growing number of services offered by VIACTIV but not directly provided by the company, all data had to be transmitted with 100% security and confidentiality at all times.
VIACTIV chose to introduce an internet portal and smartphone app (available on both iOS and Android) to enable its customers to quickly access their accounts online. And it turned to KOBIL’s digital security expertise – especially our combination of app shielding and strong customer authentications – to protect the portal, app and its users at every step of their digital experience.
KOBIL’s Smart Security Management Server, SDK, mIDManagement and mIDVerify were all used to deliver successful two-factor authentication (2FA) with third-party services.
KOBIL’s PKI-based authentication, end-to-end encryption and virtual smart card technology were also integrated, enabling portal and app users to submit invoices and certificates of incapacity to work as well as access a central mailbox for all correspondence with VIACTIV.
The introduction of VIACTIV’s portal and free app improved customer experience immeasurably. Instead of having to visit a VIACTIV service center or their nearest Post Office, VIACTIV customers can instead complete important formalities quickly and conveniently online with just a few clicks.
The app has received several awards and continues to free time for VIACTIV customers to enjoy a more active lifestyle – without worrying about the hassle of insurance paperwork.
