Headquartered in Munich, Germany, Allianz is a global financial services company specializing in insurance and asset management.

Founded in 1890, it is now an undisputed global leader. Forbes currently judges it to be the world’s largest insurance company.

A raft of subsidiary companies reinforces its position, while more than 142,000 employees serve the company’s clients around the world.

Challenges

With 92 million customers spread across more than 70 countries, Allianz’s global operations are extensive. It faced two key challenges to support its staff in their day-to-day activities.

Non-disruptive system access

Among its 142,000+ employees, there is a significant need for flexible, off-site and secure access to internal systems. A large pool of freelance support must also be able to access those same internal systems.

However, Allianz did not want to impose access procedures that would impede its workforce. Its focus was on finding a solution that was as smooth, safe, and non-disruptive as possible.

No passwords

With so many staff spread around the world, Allianz was also determined not to create extra burdens. It already had to manage what it considered to be an unacceptably high number of password recoveries, so its aim was to avoid requiring users to remember any more long and complicated passwords.

Solution

Allianz was attracted by KOBIL’s world-class security features, including our Smart Security Management Server, PKI-based authentication, end-to-end encryption through our Digitanium channel, one-click logins with QR codes, and our virtual smart card technology.

Together, these enabled us to provide a secure, effective and precise solution to Allianz’s challenges.

Both employees and freelance support were able to access Allianz’s internal systems through a simple, password-free procedure.

First, the worker opens a web browser and used a specific Allianz URL to access a unique QR code. At the same time, the worker opens the KOBIL Trusted Login app on their smartphone and logs in with either Touch or Face ID. They then use the app to scan the QR code from their browser.

The QR code is checked against our Smart Security Management Server, and once it is verified the worker has easy access to Allianz’s internal workstations through their web browser.

Results

Through KOBIL’s world-class security technology, Allianz was able to provide all necessary IT system access to an increasingly disparate and global workforce.

It was able to ensure remote system access for employees working off-site, either at home or on location, as well as maximize the value it enjoyed from its network of freelance support.

Combined, our technology helps Allianz to harness increased productivity and enhanced security measures to maintain its position at the head of the global insurance industry.
